One of the first coins I bought with my tax return was this rare provincial of Empress Livia. Ive had my eye on this coin for many many months and thankfully no one saw how rare it was or cared, so I was finally able to acquire it & for much less then asking. Shes a tough one to get and usually expensive. Another type of this coin features both her and Augustus, it's more common. This will be on wildwinds soon. Livia (30 B.C. - 29 A.D) IONIA, Ephesos Grammateus Aristeas, magistrate Æ 16 O: Draped bust right. R: EFE ARCIEREYS ASKLAS EYFRWN, Stag standing right, quiver above. 3.8g 16mm RPC 2580
That's a great feeling - to snag something you've been drooling over for a long time. Congratulations!
Congratulations According to Wikipedia, she was the wife of the Roman emperor Augustus throughout his reign, as well as his adviser. She was the mother of the emperor Tiberius, paternal grandmother of the emperor Claudius, paternal great-grandmother of the emperor Caligula, and maternal great-great-grandmother of the emperor Nero. Things might have been different in Roman history without Ms. Livia.
oh cool mat! i get a coin with my tax return also! me and mrs chrsmat71 are currently in negotiations about how much i get to spend.
Very cool pick-up, Mat (congrats on scoring such a rare chick) ... => man, she sure seemed like a piece o' work in I-Claudius
