Yeah... I was thinking India... the thing is these are tiny... like 2-4mm wide and 10mm or so tall.

 

I have an acquaintance who lived in that part of the world for a long time. I'll ask him.

 

Hyderabad 19th century fractional paisas would be my first guess. Came in all sorts of shapes and sizes.

While you may very well be correct. These came in a lot of other coins from that part of the world in which I was able to identify... specifically Chinese cash coins... that were no later than Li Tsung 1225-1264 AD... they very well could be older then 19th century.

 

Tough coin, since the type is one of the more common fakes out there. I know I wouldn't touch it if I saw it in a display case at a show. This one might be a poster child for either NGC or David Sear authentication if you are still unsure.

 

Sadly... i was given the impression that it is a cast counterfeit by someone "in the know"

 

Yeah, but a group of cash would most likely not be found with these, so the fact they were purchased together I believe is a coincidence. I wouldn't read too much into that sir. I bought a group of 11th century Byzantine once with a 5th century Ostrogothic bronze. I don't believe they had anything in common.

 

I would not disagree with that from the pic, I was trying to be optimistic.

I've never seen this type before. The engraving on that second owl is spectacular.

 

oh wow...i haven't seen those either...those owls are the coolest i've seen. what are those? real or some type of fantasy coin?
