I came across a 1999-p SAB dollar with a weird feature. On the reverse of the coin there is no "One Dollar" beneath the eagle. The letters are not rubbed off and it's obvious that they werent. I've look at dozens of pics on Google using all kinds of search criteria to no avail. I would appreciate any help with this.
The SBA met with such widespread dislike that the government decided to devalue it to whatever some retailer was willing to accept for it........most often, 25c. J/K! Chris
pics??? Grease filled die: Usually bits of grease, metal, general junk/gunk get in the die and obscure part of the design.
Can you get a closer picture? It does look like a grease filled die to me but hard to tell when they are zoomed out.
Here is a larger pic. But it looks like the detail of moon surface is there it's just letters are gone.
As a category, this is one of the more common mint errors that is encountered. They don't command too much of a premium, especually if the coin is circulated.
Thank you so much for your help. I think I will keep the coin as a novelty to show my friends. Maybe I will tell them that the coin is worth $50 but I will take $25 for it. Haha, j/k!
