Was a question I was wondering too as I've never been to a major coin show and am hoping to go sometime this year I usually write checks or use an electronic check system ie ha e check for major purchases my card has a daily limit and if I took cash I'd probably want to go with a minimum of $10k and I don't feel comfortable carrying this unarmed I have a concealed carry permit reciprocal in many states but there's others including many I want it where it's no good basically I'm just a country boy (complete with rifle shotgun and 4 wheel drive) who's not really comfortable in city surroundings why I've always bought my coins online or from coin auctions and never been to a coin show

$200. no problem. use 20's. oh you are going with a club. it's good to have people with you that you know for security reasons and to show what you coins you got to them.

coins shows in Las Vegas are awesome but I dream of going to the Long Beach show in California or FUN show in Florida. to bad I am poor. lol I will make it to Long Beach someday in the next 2-3 years. I need to pay some debt down first.

even if you just go to look. having fun doing it. just looking at coins is half of the fun. do not worry if that's all you have to spend. no body really cares. buying 1-5 coins that make your whole month/ year is so exciting.

    Tim,

I hope that attending one of these "big" shows will open your eyes a little. Just keep in mind... These dealers are VERY busy at these shows... They may not have the best manners or they may even be kind of short... Just realize that there will be million dollar deals going on in this room... My advice... Observe for a while before jumping in.

what I usually do right when I get to a coin show is go around and say hi to the dealers that you know/buy from and just let them know you are saying hi first and that you will be back at their table after you go greet some other dealers. there are times that you will just go to straight to your favorite dealer and just stay there. what I do with my favorite world coin dealer is ask ok I am gonna look at all of your (50+)double wide boxes and will be there for about 3-6 hours. and ask them where do you want me to sit so that I will be out of your way but where you can still see me. they usually have a spot/chair in a certain area for that. after about 1-2 of straight looking at coins I get up from the chair and stretch because you back and neck will get stiff after awhile of looking at coins.

some dealers are so nice to you if you are a regular of theirs because they want your business. some can be down right mean... with the attitude if you are not gonna buy something get lost. I hate that. they have so many Morgan dollars at these shows. they also have a couple early date copper. the high end raw copper guy was so nice to me. he knew his coins were way out my price range and that I did not collect early copper. but he could see my interest in just looking (drooling) on them because of there high grade. he asked if I wanted to look at them close up and I said no because I was in fear of dropping them. so I just admired them from 2 feet away.

Is how I can be at an antique show too I understand it. It also depends where in the country your from being a lifelong new englander many from away feel us to be abrupt and even rude just as we feel many from parts of the south to be overbearing and over friendly I'm not the type to need my hand held I just wanna se the right coin and get the best price and it's either yes or no

Well known antique dealer who has a personal sideline love for coins I sell some common stuff here and there but collect on a serious level thinking of stepping across the bridge from collector to dealer sometime fairly soon as a briefcase of coins is easier to carry than a truckload of furniture and I'm not getting any younger

I've been spending a lot on coins the last few years had the money and not one for stocks or money in the bank been buying 20-30k a year for the last 3 or so some looking for investment / resale some cause I love em and some I wish I hadn't bought trying to focus snd refine and figure out where the heck I'm going with all this is hard when you spent almost your whole life as a dealer (not of coins) looking at it from as collector standpoint and thinking about dealing

Just an off-the-wall thought here, but could it be that maybe, just maybe, his comment didn't have anything to do with "monetary status", and everything to do with the fact that no matter the subject, advising Detecto is an exercise in futility?

i thought trolling was not allowed on CT. not your place to decide. if he has a question, answer it sincerely, or ignore it.

    1. at the pcgs members only show in December the minimum cost for at show grading was $85. I doubt it will go down.

    2. looking at a coin with no interest in buying. December at the pcgs members only show I successfully begged a guy to let me hold his 1796 25c ngc ms 63 awesome toning. he took mercy on me when I told him I cant buy it but I would love to hold it. I gave it back after only a short time.

Nor was it your place to so rudely decide the gentleman's intent or question the quality of his purchases.
