I figured. It's not profitable to bring a bunch of 25 cent items when a table could be $100 to rent.

Looks like a little over 250 dealers.

PCGS is going to be there.

Do I have to have a membership for their on-site grading? I ran across a couple more coins I want graded.

As other have said, some will and some won't. If you want to look at something you've no intention of buying, don't pretend to be interested just so you can do so. Be honest, respect the other person's time, and don't be offended if they say "no". Remember that while this may be fun time for you, it's business time for them.

Do yourself, and more importantly, every dealer at the show a favor by simply paying cash for any and all purchases that you make. Take this as you will, but I doubt anyone wants to see another finger-pointing done-me-wrong thread about how the horrible bank or some horrible dealer is somehow responsible for an easily avoidable, yet regrettably all too common occurrence.

I really think you should just take cash then. I wouldn't use an ATM because you will pay $5+ in fees (2.5% of your budget) and you have better negotiating ability with cash.

    Have fun!

Can anyone answer the pcgs question? Do I need an active membership for onsite grading?

Your questions could be answered with a quick visit to the PCGS website, but to put it simply... it's not going to happen, Tim.

at least if you are taking a bus we wont have to work out the fuel costs/increase since 1932 when you have your next rant.

Tim, this is straight from the PCGS site:

  9. I don't think you have to worry about getting robbed. Just keep the $200 in your underwear and only take the money out just when you are about to pay the dealer.

  10. Be careful if your plan is to flip. This is tough to do when you are already paying retail unless you can cherrypick. Enjoy the show, TC

Agreed. This is not the venue to buy coins to flip. Dealers use coin shows as their full retail venue. They don't bring their whole inventory...just stuff they think will bring the most return. You won't find coins here for wholesale prices.

Just go...look for something you want and if you can afford it get it and enjoy it. Make sure you have fun...don't focus on making money because I don't think you will.

Wear comfortable shoes, take cash, ask if it is OK to take photos, & have loads of fun.

I look forward to your trip report with lots of quality photos at CT.

I agree. I went to this show last year. Everything was marked full retail. It was slim pickens for me. I found a few things to flip, but it wasnt easy.

I think the on site grading runs about $50-$65 a coin on a 24 hour turn around and $100 for a few hour turn around.
