I searched and searched but I couldn't find anything specific to paper money. It seems pmg and pcgs are the two main grading services. Which is better? Specifically for future resale value. Also do I have to pay to be a member to then pay to get things graded? Thanks Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
IMO PMG and PCGS are both the tops. Maybe PMG a bit more but both are just fine. And yes to the latter or see a dealer.
The local guy said it would be about $130 to submit all 3 bills with his regular shipment. Is that a decent price? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
For $125 you can purchase a PMG Collectors Society Premium Membership that gives you a coupon for 5 free submissions for grading.
The coupons are for economy submissions, which will take a while to return. It could be 2 months before you see the notes. If that doesn't bother you, that's probably your best bet. Economy submissions take 28 business days (6 weeks) for processing and 7-10 days for registered mail. If you don't want to wait that long, find out if the dealer is using express or standard service. It might be worth using the dealer's service. Clay, do you know if the free submission coupons cover shipping fees? It might cost $15-$20 for shipping/insurance. I created an account on FedEx, and have them ship it to me through my FedEx account, using 2nd Day Delivery. It took me 30 minutes to set up the account. The shipping fees are less than USPS Registered Mail, and it arrives in 2 days instead of 7-10.
Ok yea I'll find out, he said it's when he sends his in so I imagine he's not using a long return method Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
There are many others like CGA RCGC CGC and the infamous CEC. I've seen homemade ones too. They were often overgraded or even bought by the grading company. They just don't command the same premiums.
Also the shipping and insurance is both there and back. Don't forget that. As for CGA, I would not send mine to them. Just PMG or PGCS for me.
So with the yearly pmg collectors society premium membership, is shipping included? Or does it cost nearly that much? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Ok I talked to their customer service and it would cost me about $23 for shipping. Based on this chart. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Post some photos of the notes you want to grade. Sometimes the fees outweigh the increase in value, depending on the type and condition.
I would send in the 5 and the 500. These are more advanced collectors items and would command more money in a slab (assuming no significant tears). The 2 is common, not as valuable as the others, and is one of popular entries into collecting large size currency. It also looks as if it may have been pressed. I don't think it's worth the money to get the 2 graded. Maybe someone else can chime in.
Wouldn't send in the $5, don't think it will grade enough to increase the slabbed value, think you might get VF20 at best on that note, and F15/VF20 Woodchoppers are everywhere. The $2 might because it looks like it could claw it's way to high VF/XF and a high grade might add the extra value you are looking for. The $500 would because they command more in a slab and are very highly priced now (in my opinion...)
