I bought this one raw on eBay awhile back. I just got it back from NGC this week. AU 53 BN - population 2
McBlzr; Population 2? As a R1 copper token with the reverse listed as 307, I'm surprised by that population. Don't they get this token in for grading often? No negative feelings here, just curious. The piece is very attractive and I wouldn't sell it short for what it is, but the color nor the grade seems out of the ordinary. Am I missing anything?
if I had them with me I would take pictures but I have the die shatter Broas Pie Baker error, Shoot him on the spoot error, an "our navy" civil war token, two "not one cent for tribute" hard times tokens and two (one really bad condition, one really good condition) executive experiment hard times tokens (the one with the turtle carrying the chest on its back) I LOVE stuff from the civil war and hard times tokens
Salty, I was really surprised when I looked it up after it came back from NGC !!! http://www.ngccoin.com/certlookup/index.aspx?CertNumber=2623398-001 Mackwork has one posted in this thread, also, but I did not see a grade on his pic.
Very nice McBlzr. It is what it is and I'm sure your not complaining. :>) It puts you in an unique position with just one other member. It had to put a smile on your face when you read that.
A lot of nice looking tokens here everyone. Manny probably have seen mine but just in case for the few that haven't here are a few posters I put together of mine.
coinsarefun has this piece in different metals. I only have this one example. (obv) Value Me As You Please (rev) Alfred S Robinson Banker Numismatist & Notary Public Dealer in Stocks, Bonds, Notes Land Warrants, Uncurrent Money & all kinds of American & Foreign Specie Hartford Conn. 1861 Rulau CtHa 15 Miller Conn 10.
I've noticed that NGC's POP reports don't seem to show very many pieces. More than likely this can be attributed to the shorter time they have been grading CWT's. A couple of pages back I posted a Jackson, Michigan store card that the census shows as the finest known....well, it's actually the only one of that variety graded. So, for now it is the finest known.
In my experience most CWTs are raw and not slabbed so that would make a big difference in POP reports. When I look at CWTs at coin shows or in auction catalogs very few of them are in TPG holders. That will change over time I'm sure. Bruce
I've never been to a coin show, do they have many dealers with CWTs? I don't know anybody that collects them here in East Texas, with the exception of a lady here in town that used to collect them. She is supposed to be locating them and going to give me some literature she has and possibly sell some doubles if she has them. I just wondered if shows would be a good place to look?

Some dealers may have a few tokens. It's best to find the larger token specialty dealers who have significant inventories. On eBay you my note that sellers cwtguy and stevehayden regularly list tokens. Steve Hayden also has his own site and auctions, look here: http://www.civilwartokens.com/ Where I live in Michigan there are two local dealers that have an arrangement with Ernie Latter (aka cwtguy) and regularly have selections from his inventory to sell. In your area I would recommend talking to dealers and ask them if they have any tokens, then ask if they know of any area dealers that may specialize. A referral from another dealer is always good. If you ever have the opportunity to get to one of the major coin shows you may see Ernie Latter and/or Steve Hayden there.
I had that token graded by NGC under the Economy tier, along with 11 other US coins. It took 35 days from the time they received it, until I got it back. The wait was worth it. I did not take a very good pic of the reverse.
Steve Hayden is a huge dealer in CWTs as PennyGuy says. Ernie Latter also has a good selection of them as does Paul Cunningham. All three always set up at major coin shows. Cunningham also goes to a lot of smaller shows as well. Check out Hayden's site. Bruce
Thanks BRandM I can't believe I forgot Paul. He lives about 40 miles from me. LOL Many of my Lincolnania pieces came from him.
Thanks for those names I'll surely check them out. I love the CWT for the history and also the fact a lot of people (non-collectors) have never heard of them and get pretty excited just learning they exist.
My latest pickup. This from Steve Hayden at the Baltimore Expo this last weekend. This acquisition gets me down to five more to go for my Michigan towns/cities collection.
