I am trying to remember some "free" software packages that allow you to crop the coin image in a circular fashion, not square like most. Suggestions

Gimp will do it. It is free.

Not sure I like the thought of a circular cropped image..? Is there a specific reason you need to do this?

It removes the unwanted background so all you see is the coin.

It is called PhotoScape. there are some threads about its use.

I'd photograph as per Doug Smiths thread and setup, which makes the trimming easy with photoshop.

But photoshop isn't free (in fact now they charge a monthly rental fee for the most recent version of the program, you don't own it.) but Gimp and Photoscape are free. They aren't the same, but they operate in a similar manner I believe.
