Show us your Gold Beans!

I picked up my first Gold Bean a few weeks ago, and figured it was time to start another showcase and ask for people to post their Gold Beans!
If you've had any interaction with me, you know what series my Gold Bean is in...
I got this one from a fellow collector. I'm waiting on the new DIVa catelog to be finalized to I can have them attribute it as "Struck on a Proof Planchet"
This coin was actually a part of the study CAC did when they initially started looking at Ikes. It definitly has the mirror finish of a proof, and a long with that comes my complete inability to properly photograph a proof coin. Knowing that it's a Gold Bean, and comparing the strike to other Ikes that I have, I would say its probably at least an MS65.

Very nice coins guys. I'm excited to have one in my collection just because i know they are few and far between.

 

My only gold CAC - from the SPQR collection, which hurt the value of gold beans as many hundreds were auctioned off at the same time.

 

I've earned 14 or so out of 120 or so coins submitted. Perhaps later I can get some images up, but right now I have to figure a coin deal.

Wow, 14 Gold Beans. That's awesome. what series are these in? Are they mostly old slab stuff?
For Ike's I know they are few and far between. I'm happy to have one in my collection.

 

So if you have a coin with a gold bean, why not re-submit for a higher grade? Isnt that in essence what a gold bean means, that CAC believes it is undergraded and would probably grade higher?

 

In many instances you would net more by leaving the coin in the holder with the gold CAC sticker than if you spent the funds to have it regraded and sold at a higher grade.

 

Since the Gold Bean means "at least a grade higher" in CAC's eyes, i think people hang onto the AT LEAST part and will pay more for the potential. That being said, I've seen even green bean stickered coins that had no place with the grade the TPG gave them, let along getting a sticker, but that is neither here nor there. In summation, I agree with Tom B.

 

Silliness. Can't believe people pay for this nonsense. Why submit the coin to get a gold sticker when you can simply submit it for a higher grade...

 

Are you suggesting that average buyers would pay more money for a MS66 with a gold sticker than for an MS67 with no sticker all else being equal? I know I wouldn't.

Are the re-grading fees compared with sticker fees that much higher to make up the difference in price for the grade? Sounds odd to me... you can get a modern coin like the Ike re-graded for $14. Yes, I know there is shipping, but I would bundle it in with other coins anyway.

Just my opinion, but I don't see the value in submitting a coin to get a gold sticker when you could submit it for a higher grade. I guess I must be missing something.

I don't think you're missing anything, I just think you're looking at the situation differently.
I don't think most people are looking for a gold bean (although I'm sure some are). They are submitting their coins to get the grade confirmed by CAC. If it comes back with a gold sticker, you have a few options. Some people will opt to offload the gold sticker coin because it just got a huge premium boost. We all know that green stickers carry a premium, and gold stickers can really bring in the extra bucks.
Like you mentioned Hotpocket, I would rather have the graded MS67 coin than a MS66 with a gold sticker. So I would fall in the category that would offload the stickered coin and buy the equivalent. But like i said, the buyers of these Gold Bean coins are hoping that that MS66 with a Gold Bean could be a MS67+ or even a MS68 if they resubmit it to a TPG. They are taking a risk, often paying a premium, and hoping it pans out. It's a gamble.
The Ike I have that is gold beaned is more of a conversation piece in my collection. It is a starkly undergraded coin, and I got it for a fair price.
