I will provide one word in response: proof?

This is at least the second time you have called out a coin as fake without providing any proof or even suggesting why you believe it to be fake. If you have good cause or proof sir, then, by all means, provide it.

I don't think Muhab takes those posts of his seriously. Therefore, I don't think we should either.

The "F" word should not be used casually on this or any other forum. It's like yelling "Fire" in a crowded theater. I, for one, dread this word in the context of our collections.

Agreed, but what do you do with people who want to come off sounding like a troll with a one word vocabulary.

You are right. Unless he can substantiate what he's saying, we should just ignore him.

That's simply not true. The internet is not a monolithic entity. There are numerous trustworthy dealers with lifetime guarantees. I have zero doubts about authenticity when buying from FORVM or CNG, just to name two among dozens.

I've also spent a lot of time studying fakes and how to recognize them. The intelligent collector takes the time to learn how to spot forgeries. The best resource on the web is this FORVM site - start reading the stickied threads, and study them all...

Are there a lot of fakes for sale? Yes. But to claim someone's coin is fake simply because it was bought on the internet is simplistic. Every coin has to be assessed on an individual basis.

Also, not all of us live in locations where we can hunt for ancient coins in our back yards. I would love to take a metal detector out for a spin and come across a few denarii, but in Pennsylvania, the most I'm going to discover is bottle caps and maybe a cent or two.

Don't sell yourself short JA. On a good day you might even find a pre-1964 Washington Quarter!

But your point is well taken. I don't think our new friend realizes the level of expertise on this forum and the fact that some of the posters here have literally decades of experience identifying ancients, some have their own ancient web-sites, and many are actually experts in IDing fake ancients.

Plus there's the etiquette factor involved. Perhaps he does not understand that it's bad form just to cry out fake in a coin forum. And that's OK. He'll learn... or not.o_O

I've considered buying a good metal detector, because there is the possibility of coming across some colonials on the East Coast, and that would definitely be a thrill.

I don't feel that we here do this, I think that we (or I) just really appreciate the history and beauty of these coins and want to share with others. I haven't found any of the coins in my collection, but then again the only coins that have ever been found in my area have been super rare (think two dozen known).

I think we should all start living in delusion, apparently its nice there and they have their own football team and shopping mall. Its certainly better than where I'm from.....

This has to be a joke. I haven't seen one person here claimed they found something in the ground that they didn't actually find. Here in the US and Canada, I'd like to see Muhab find one ancient by metal detecting. What a crock. This guy is
I was willing to give him the benefit of the doubt the first time he said something, but I'm through with him now and this is the last I will comment about any of his posts.
