This one is a pick up from earlier this month. It's not the prettiest coin out there and the patina is worn in areas, but hey, it's got FOUR heads - Rhoemetalces I of Thrace, Queen Pythadoris, Augustus and Livia. These don't appear to be a particularly popular type, but I've been getting interested in the coinage of the various client kingdoms of Rome. The bonus on this one is the little capricorn playing with a globe on the reverse. Not trying to be competitive or anything, but please post your coins with four or more heads on them. RHOEMETALCES I Sapaen King of Thrace AE28 (13.51g, 28mm) Late 1st century BC - 12 AD. RPC I 1708; Youroukova 182-4. O: BASILEWS ROIMHTALKOU, Diademed head of Rhoemetalces and draped bust of Pythadoris, conjoined right. R: KAISAROS SEBASTOU, Heads of Augustus, laureate, and Livia, conjoined right; to right, capricorn right, holding globe.
Interesting coin! I bet your amp goes to eleven, doesn't it? Don't think I have any coins with four human heads.
Wow => that's a beautiful new quad-headed coin, Z!! ... you've certainly got me beat ... all I have is this tri-headed example!!
Another super coin, Z - you really have a superb collection. Why am I not surprised that Steve has a Three Stooges medal? Anyway, I don't think we're going to see many quadruple portraits, although I bet Martin and Doug have a few.
Thanks, John. It's been growing a little haphazard of late. I'm rather in awe of you guys with specialties, but I've always been more of a generalist and I'm having fun collecting whatever I take a shine to.
Oh I'm definitely a generalist. I just get in the mood to go full-retard Nabataean sometimes. Other than that, I'll collect anything that captures my imagination.
Very cool Zumbly, 4 heads totally awesome...i like it.. I do have a Byzantine coin with six people with 6 heads.... Romanius lV..Diogenes AD..1068 - 1071..AD.. Obv. The 1963 30 Drachms coin is KM #86 which I purchased while visiting Greece a few years ago. It is an inexpensive commemorative silver coin. The obverse depicts five kings of the House of Glücksburg, 1863-1963. Clockwise from the top: Paul, George II, Alexander, Constantine I and George I. The names of each king and the dates they ruled are listed (in Greek) with each head.
