Any way to *safely* clean this inexpensive 2-cent piece?

There are very few cases in which cleaning a coin is generally accepted. I'm wondering if this would be one of them, and if so, how.

How do you define "inexpensive". That coin looks pretty good to me. At least a VF. I would leave it alone.

 

It looks previously cleaned & it has environmental damage. IMO the net grade is below VF.

 

You can do and/or try whatever you want with this one, Doug... It is already a corroded and cleaned problem coin.

Agreed...but I think what you are seeing as "needing cleaning" is actually the corrosion. You won't be able to remove it.

 

I agree someone tried to clean a corroded coin in this case. It won't look much better. Just enjoy having a civil war year coin with a full motto.
