I have been studying numismatics for a very short time (three years hardcore). I have had an interest in coins for 40 years. Please tell me that my limited knowledge would not make me an idiot, if I passed on this coin for an asking price of $1.00. Clearly a fake, right?
About 5 cents in scrap metal would be my opinion of what it's worth about the same as an empty beer can
On Feb-22-14 at 14:22:45 PST, seller added the following information: It has been suggested: What you have is a poor quality Chinese counterfeit. The Chinese sent more of those fakes over here than there are of the Authentic item. These often sell in flea markets. Seller's response is: I have no way to know if this statement is accurate or not, please be certain of your desire to bid on this item. If you even suspect that this item is not authentic please refrain from bidding.
Darn! I searched all over e-bay for it too. By the way, my grandson came home with a coin with the same obverse and the reverse had a coin dealer's ad on the back.
I don't know these very well but if that thing had some toning, it would fool a lot of folks. Guess it probably already would.
Here's another real one lower grade the hair detail on the fake is totally wrong add that to its starting to rust!!
