here it is, what do you make of the edge lettering with what appears to be some sort of reeding and has the r in or over h in half. is this rare? what type of premium if any associated? DSCF2663.JPG DSCF2663.JPG DSCF2668.JPG DSCF2670.JPG DSCF2671.JPG

The later dates had reeding and lettering just like this. As far as the letters being over one another, this is also common. The rare lettering errors are triple punched, no edge lettering, flipover double punched and flipover triple punched.

Premiums are hard to come by, even on the rare edge errors. There are very few collectors left who look for them. I only got a $50-$60 premium for a flipover double edge lettering of mine last year. I shopped it around at many shows before auctioning it. No one was willing to pay, even though they were interested.

Can't really tell from the pics which one it is, burin overtones book, he has 59 different documented edge lettering errors. The only "rare," "very rare," or "extremely rare," edge lettering errors according to overton are easily narrowed down to 4 different ones.

E56- all edge lettering is doubled.(rare)

E57- All edge lettering tripled(very rare)

E58- Entirely Plain Edge- this coin has never passed through the machine and is considered extremely rare with only a handful of genuine examples known. (6, I believe)

E59- Flip over all lettering doubled- This is also considered an extremely rare coin. CBD, I wish you still had it. I would love to own an example!

Yep, having letter punched in the wrong place is a common occurrence on Bust halves, it would probably be mentioned more but not many collectors take the time to examine the 3rd side of these interesting coins.
