I'm not an expert on state quarters, but I'm going to venture saying no. High mintage numbers and lots of regular folks collected them. Therefore, they are not rare in numbers or condition. The only thing that may make one worth keeping is a rare variety. The only problem with finding it in circulation is its very likely to have wear.
you prolly will never find a 90% silver state quarter in circulation but there are a few errors to account for that might be in circulation taking a look a cherry picker guide c.p.g. 2004D wisconson extra high and low leaf forth 150-200 in any grade theres a few extra tree errors and ddo's you might want to go look for..
1976 versus 2000's even still that's a freak occurrence..where as a few may have leaked into circulation for the 76 , the state w quarters 90% never were circulated
Yes it was a low odds find. I didn't even know they existed until I found this one. I have a sick habit of hoarding every bicentennial quarter I come across, and when I found this one I just grabbed it thinking it was a regular bicentennial issue quarter. I got to looking at it and noticed that it wasn't the same as my other 500 bicentennial quarters and asked some questions on the forum and my mystery was solved. It is a business strike S-minted quarter, not a proof. It was perhaps my favorite circulation find of last year.
Which means these are very common and aren't worth the effort, only if your bored or looking for someting to do. I vote with Treashunt, no.
Well. I guess as most of you say, if nobody collects them, than our future collectors will have a hard time finding an un-circulated state quarter.
IF nobody were to collect them then this is correct. The problem is everyone is collecting them. Families all across America have folders full of these quarters. The only ones not collecting them are serious collectors. In other words... those that are in the know.
TODAY - Geez ! I just found a roll of 1916-D dimes that someone hoarded away in the year 1916. ( Not really). YEAR 2112 - Geez ! I just found a roll of California State quarters that someone hoarded way back when California was just one state.
I have a BU set of states, each mint, and ya know, could care less about them, Ever since they started silver sets again, I buy 3 per year, I'm not expecting these to be a rarity, but at least these have paid off.
That's not really accurate. It's true, the set had very high mintages and as a result...the "normal" state quarters don't (and will never) have value in circulated grades. That said, there are lots of varieties in the series that do have value...if you know what to look for.
That's the exact problem with them. There are lots of varieties, tons of errors, a crap load of cuds, oddities, etc...... and as people keep finding more and more, that value disappears. Now if you said there are a few that are very rare and very diificult to find, then you have something to search for. Those will remain worth grabbing. The rest won't do much but occupy your time looking for them.
