I just am. I really don't see why I'm not supposed to research this way.

I've already said I'm going to do everything I can never to return anything to him again.

So, in other words, you do not trust the guy who has invested in a shop, a location and most likely cares about his reputation (accepting returns and all). If I don't trust someone, I don't go buy from him. You should leave the poor guy alone. He's not really responsible for any trust issues his potential customers might have.:(

Sorry my friend. No, the customer is not always right. Quite frankly, customers are wrong the majority of the time. That saying is a slogan representing a customer service model. Nothing more.
I think people are giving you advice on how they perceived your actions and why you were treated the way you were. You can believe what you did was right and move on to the next LCS and try the same stuff. At some point though, if a pattern develops, hopefully you have the insight to figure out maybe the problem is you. Maybe it is this guy though and you will never have another issue.
Your money is not more sacred than anyone else's and when you try to save yours at the expense of someone else's, you are bound to find some resistance.

Having read more and more of your take on this situation, I find it disconcerting that you seem to be clueless as to what is really going on.

I applaud the owner for how politely and appropriately he reached out to you with his concerns. He did it with just the two of you there, face to face, while getting you the inventory once again and trying to give you a hint as to you getting on his nerves. He's telling you, that you will pay more for wasting his time.

In all the years I've collected coins I've only set foot into a coin shop 3 times. All I ever get is an earful of complaining about the market, eBay, China and having to get coins out of their display case. o_O

It doesn't apply anywhere because the customer is not always right.

Thank you! If you hadn't said it...I would have. Every business dealing you have is a symbiotic relationship. Both parties give and get something...it's mutual and there is a respect that goes with it. I don't know who coined the phrase "the customer is always right" but I'm sure it was some slick salesman...and you can always trust those guys. ;)

It is a phrase that customers grasp onto, and cling to it for dear life, because they want it to be true. They want everything "their way". Especially when they are in the wrong.

Do you have the right to do everything you did? Yeah.
    Should you feel bad? No.
To answer the OP, did you tick him off? Probably.
Did he have right to do everything he did? Yeah.

You can do what you want to do. If your attitude is, well I don't think anything I specifically did is wrong and I'll just try to stop returning coins that is fine. But you can't feel wronged when there is some splashback (increased prices, etc.) You can take your business elsewhere if you wish, although your buying habits may not have better mileage with other LCS's.

That's the great thing about open marketplaces. Buyers and sellers can behave how they want to fit their needs, and in the end things work out because no transactions are mandatory.

He seemed like a pretty good guy for letting you do returns etc. And he let you know in a nice way that you were pushing a little too far. You gave little in return. Screw you.

You mean "What ever happened to I'm always right?". Drop the sense of entitlement and try dealing with him as a human being and not just some thing you are trying to get something out of.

I simply don't consider buying Trade dollars, CC Morgans or any other scarce/expensive coin if they're not slabbed, so the risk is minimized.

    Agree.

While I agree with this philosophy...you still have to be careful and do your due diligence. There are a lot of counterfeit slabs out there now too.

What do you mean? I'm not trying to feed anything. Facts are facts, there are counterfeit slabs out there and as a result gone are the days when a slab offered absolute security. All I'm saying is make sure you know what you are buying.

I know and I was saying it half jokingly because I think all the paranoia from the trade dollar incident is overflowing into $75 morgans.

I understand. But, I hate to sound crazy...but not even $75 Morgans are completely safe anymore. I have seen some excellent counterfeits of common date Morgans coming from China. It's crazy...but they are selling for more than it costs to make them. Plus, people aren't suspicious so they aren't looking. Everyone scrutinizes the key dates...not so much on the commons. There is money to be made for the counterfeiters.
