You may have seen my other "Will It CAC" thread, here is #03 and the final for tonight. I'm soliciting the fine members of CoinTalk their opinions on a coin I have already sent to CAC for review.

Please let me know what you think, such as:

    • Will it fail to CAC, and why?
    • Will it be a green or gold CAC sticker?
    • What (negative) issues does the coin have?
    • What positive attributes does the coin have?
    • Is the strike good or bad?
    • Is the toning pretty or ugly?
    • etc

If you don't know what CAC is, and are curious, see here: http://www.caccoin.com/

CAC puts stickers on the A and B coins.

Up for consideration if a 1942 Washington Quarter NGC MS66 in NGC7 holder.

I think it will get a green bean as I think this coin is good for the grade. It appears to have clean fields and nice luster. The minimal toning looks very nice on the coin. I think it's weakest attribute is the strike isn't the strongest...but even that's not bad by any means.

    So, I'd say green bean.

Thanks for your comments. This coin is so "buttery" in hand, it kind of looks amazing next to a lot of my other MS65 /66 Quarters. There is a strange blue/black spot on the forehead, which is a concern. I think Doug has said mint state Washington Quarters are considered the hardest series to properly grade.

I think they are hard to grade as far as them being MS or not because the hair on the bust was pretty ill-defined. It's hard to see wear unless the luster is really booming. Once you decided that it is MS it's like any other series...look for bag marks and nicks and then strike quality.

But for me, I have a hard time decided if they are MS or a nice AU if the coin has average luster and strike.

This is one of my favorite Washington quarters that I own, and guess what, CAC liked it too!
