Since 3D printers are being used around the world and will soon be released for everyone to use, do you think people will be able to make rare or valuable coins in them? What affect do you think 3D printers will have on coin collectors? Will people be able to make coins?

Getting the color and luster right is going to be the problem.

No. They might be able to make coin holders at home. No.

Alright. Well that's a good thing, thought they would be able to make coins like 1943, 1970 S small date, 109 s vdb, etc.

Would it cost more to make coin holders than to buy them?

What's that supposed to mean? You can buy one easily for a bit more than $1k.

I'm actually pretty sure the OP *wasn't* referring to that. I would assume OP would realize something the "welds" items wouldn't be able to make acceptable fake coins.

Technology is a wonderful thing. It is advancing at a very fast pace. In 20 years, it is reasonable to think that a 20-D printer (every upgrade requires a higher number) will have the capability to make a simple coin. They are already talking about making much more complex things. On the other hand, we will also probably have the ability to tell that it was faked on the printer with another device that is yet to be created. NGC and PCGS will be in heaven.

They have already printed a 1911 style handgun. INCLUDING THE THREADED BARREL. A metal, 3d printed gun. Not just the one shot plastic ones that were on the news.

That wasn't my intent, I'm sorry that it might have been interpreted that way.
