I did not bid on this slabbed trade dollar; good decision or not?

They're both sweet coins , but that '73 is a beauty , every bit as nice in the details as the '78-S PCGS AU-53 I just bought . I don't get how it only received an EF that's an AU coin in my book all day long . As a matter of fact it has less wear on the eagle with about equal wear on the obverse as my new one. I'd sure like to know how they came up with a 45 .

I love them. They are so original--not dipped or cleaned up. Nice surfaces, and lovely color. Those are two beauties!!! My opinion is that PCGS is tougher on Trade Dollars than NGC, and there is a certain amount of satisfaction for NGC to cross borderline coins higher and gain more business that way.

As I'm not selling the 73 anytime soon I'm gonna leave it as it is for now I may try and either cross it or upgrade it eventually

Just looked on pcgs coin facts the population of the 1873 in xf 45 is a tiny 29 a total population of 275 in all grades and an estimated survival of 1500 in any condition a very tough coin to find and one I'm real happy to own

You got that right as I hardly ever see any '73-P Trades . As for grade and eye appeal , I like it better than the '78'S PCGS AU-53 I just bought . Great pick up .

I'm noticing this a lot lately on pcgs there's a 1878-s on ha right now is pcgs xf -45 I think it's about an au -55 I bid on it cheap and was outbid today I'm not gonna chase it cause I already have 3 1878-s and it's not an upgrade I have an ms 63 and an au -53 already but it's a real nice coin for someone who wants a nice trade

PCGS is really tough on Trade Dollars. There was a collector of trades ATS that did some NGC to PCGS crossovers and the results were shocking. I don't remember the specifics, but they were along the lines of AU58 downcrossed to AU50 and AU55 down to XF45, or some such.
