Why would it be removed? So you cant give numerical grades to raw coins, and you cant sell graded coins as raw. I think Ebay didnt understand the listing and panicked. I see no reason why that listing should of been removed.

That's right. People always sell illusions in ebay, why delete this one?

Wonder how he'll list it next? Let's stay tuned and see if he will crack it out and sell it as a high MS, or if he just lists it as-is so we can see the (MS61?) grade.

No different than getting the coin back as a Details grade from PCGS and breaking it out and selling it.

But the link is dead so I couldn't see if he tampered with the photos.

Apparently so. Although I didn't care for the listing...I did not think this violated any eBay rules.

So, I looked it up...here is what eBay policy says:

So, the rules actually say that you "can" list the grade if the coin meets certain criteria (which being slabbed by PCGS meets)...but by using the word "can" I would think you aren't require to. It doesn't say anywhere that you must list the grade.

    Actually No.
"only if the coin has been graded by a company that has been found by us to meet certain minimum"
not = "if the coin meets certain criteria"

What are you talking about...the rules state that if a "coin has been graded by a company that has been found by us to meet certain minimum" you CAN post the grade in the listing. It doesn't say you MUST post the grade. This coin was graded by PCGS which is one of the companies that eBay has decided meets their criteria.

The coin must meet a certain criteria to be listed with a grade...that criteria being it must have been graded by one of 4 different TPGs. PCGS is one of those. I don't understand the problem with my post...it's pretty clear.

Clear as mud. The difference you need to consider is about "a company that has been found by us to meet certain minimum" v "coin must meet a certain criteria".

Not sure I have time for this, but if you really feel the need to have it spoon fed it is probably in your best interest to go private.

    Was it your listing?

It wasn't so much the thinking outside the box part that got a negative reaction from so many. It had more to do with the deceit or perception of deceit (intentional or not). When you cover up a grade on a slabbed coin you have listed for sale it comes off as not being completely upfront about what you are selling. Maybe he was trying to be different but it just wasn't a good idea, IMO.

Such a needless rude response. The coin listed and the slab (grading company) it comes in are the same item...since that's what's for sale. My post was plenty clear. You are just trying to cause trouble. I suggest you stop doing that. :)

I don't see how the ebay auction really broke the rules. Could someone possibly interpret ulterior motives for the seller listing the coin while covering up the grade? Sure. But without definitive proof, and the fact that the auction seems to have been within ebay listing rules, I am curious why it got taken down.

I'm glad the listing is gone. I don't have time to play games or the need to have lawyers check out the linguistics of ads to determine intent. State everything in a precise, accurate and complete way. Why would you spend your money on a guessing game?

Because if a coin is graded by a professional grading service - which is known to be reputable and also happens to be one of two eBay explicitly endorses - then the grade should be made available to all potential bidders. In other words... information that could affect price should not be withheld.

He may of also violated a rule that has to do with photoshopping a listing photo.

A raw coin isn't slabbed. Furthermore, it isn't slabbed by a reputable grading service. We all know the grade on that PCGS slab affect the price. Seller is not being fully transparent in hiding the grade.

    BOOM!

Don't get me wrong, I'm not condoning the actions of the seller. I think that erasing the grade doesn't serve as any benefit to the buyer and would likely benefit the seller in terms of price in the long run. I just don't see where he explicitly broke the ebay rules. Either way, it was taken down for whatever reason. Do you think it will make another appearance? :D
