I think it's a great idea for an additional reference. Would make a great app you can purchase if you don't want to get it published in paper.

For US coins the demand is relatively even across specific series. It gets screwy when you start comparing series. That is, for normal dates, not if you're doing varieties.

  5. What I need is an app in which I can either take a quick picture/scan of the coin and/or input important features on my phone and get back an immediate response such as deal (buy it at this price) or no deal (walk away). I would buy that app for $1.99 for sure. :D TC

If it's a NGC slab, they provide an app for that.

if she is going to go that far, why doesnt she add a brief description of each series, simplistic grading definitions, bind them all together and put a red cover on it.

I think you're right. Gathering prices and keeping them updated is very intensive work. Perhaps your solution is best cause it would stand the test of time and not need to be updated frequently.

EDIT: I was being sort of facetious with the mind-blown gif.

I believe our favorite forum red-head is working hard on it.

I cannot wait to see your Morgan Dollar chart, given that I have been interested in and have collected them for so many years. I think some folks would be very surprised about what you do show for certain dates--there are so many misconceptions about Morgan dollars in general. :)

So, I have been waiting patiently for 4 different people to actually take a look at the Morgan Dollar Chart, and as someone else mentioned above I think I'm gong to change the terms in general, though I haven't decided upon what that's going to be yet, and added an additional term between "better" and "scarce".

Once we come to a reasonable consensus here at the shop (after all, if you ask 100 numismatists there may be some variance in opinion between coins that are "slightly better" or "better", it is all rather subjective), I'm going to see if I can't do some number crunching off the combined Charts and see if any sort of pattern emerges. I'm hoping that I'll find something like "in general, better coins are valued approximately 25% over common coins" or some such. I have no idea if this will actually be the case or not, but I would really like to be able to define some of these terms a little more clearly.

So, speaking of, right now I have common --> slightly better --> better --> "uncommon" (added as a placeholder for Morgans, I don't like it but wanted to get the chart to my slow coworkers as soon as possible) --> scarce --> rare.

I do like the idea of perhaps using "scarce" as the highest tier with "rare" possibly being reserved for things priced around $100k or thereabouts.

What says CoinTalk? What should my 6 term scale look like?
