The 1928 Peace Dollar is scarce across all grades. As such the pricing is relatively flat until you get into the better preserved and better struck coins.

It certainly is not a rare coin, just scarce.

Here's hoping! ;) I wish I could put it back up now, but there's no way I'm going back to the office tonight! :p

Just a suggestion, but I'd be ultra careful about throwing the R word around. It's usage as a method of hype has grown to such proportions that the use of the word tends to cause a lack of confidence the user's credibility.

My suggestion, be satisfied with more scarce and respect for your work will benefit ;)

Second suggestion, I readily agree that such charts if compiled into booklet/book form, would a huge seller ! Huge ! So you might want to re-think just giving them away :)

Yeah, but what the government doesn't bother to tell you is that it will cost you thousands of dollars, if not tens of thousands, to litigate your case and there are still no guarantees. Take my word for it. It happened to my Mom with a piece of her artwork.

So, to update a bit I finished my version of the Morgan Dollars (it's still being passed around the office for review) today, and started on Seated Dollars (doing silver dollars first, why not) ... when I ran into what a bit of a dilemma which will need some ironing out.

I was doing this purely for my benefit, as a learning guide for me, and what I was doing was rarity BY GRADE. So just keep that in mind! I've decided to present all silver dollars together. :) I'm not going to bother with flowing hair or bust and what not, so I'm doing Seated through Peace right now. Contemplating trying to do some proofs at the same time, but I'm trying not to bite off TOO much at once!

I think this is the first post I've ever read where you use punctuation marks between sentences. [IMG]

i'm not sure I get all the excitement for this. It was essentially any price guide, with the prices removed, and words like Rare, common, scarce, etc put in its place.

The redbook or grey sheets would be better to have on you at an auction, or in a coin shop.
Amanda, Its cute and may serve some purpose, but I would check around with some other nuismatics before you invest any money in copyright or publishing.

  16. I liked it because it was a quick/easy reference without all the numbers. However, I agree that a lot of people will still want to see prices. Also, how one defines common, rare, etc. can be debated forever. TC

I think copyrights are like ADT stickers on your windows. It may scare some off, but if the risk seems worth it, sooner or later you got a fight on your hands. I think you had it right the first time. Make it available for free on your website. Maybe it would generate some advertising dollars down the road.

I disagree, prices become obsolete very quickly, while rarity ratings don't.

In ancients we're still using some books from the '20s and '30s.

Guess what? Rarity tables, not price charts.

Yes, the whole rare thing is debatable. Since she is just taking copyrighted material out of the redbook, substituting availability for price, I don't think she has much to offer worth paying for. Now if she actually spent time and researched true rarity, she may have something.
    Such as
Common junk - extreme availability on line, and in most dealers junk bin.
Common - available at all coin shows and online
    Scarce some examples regularly avaible
    Very Scarce sometimes avaible
Extremely Scarce 1 - 10 available in a given year
    Etc.
1928 peace dollars in g f vf are not rare. They are expensive but not rare.

I not sure if the cheerleding and excitement had more to do with the poster than the content. If detecto created this, I have a fealing he would of been picked a part.
    IMHO

    Wh
What good is rarity without demand? There are many rare coins with out demand, and a person shouldn't pay up for a coin that is labeled as rare, if nobody's wants them
