Here are some books I want. The Standard Guide to Grading British Coins: Pre-decimal Issues (1797 to 1970) This book can be had for 13 pounds ($21.63) shipped in the UK. The cheapest I can find it in the states? $770! http://www.amazon.com/Standard-Guide-Grading-British-Coins/dp/0948964839 2014 Collectors Coins GB is 5.35 pounds in the uk. I can't find it anywhere in the states.
so order it and have it shipped to the states..... In fact, you should order a few of them and then you can sell them cheaper than everyone else and still make a nice profit.
Do we still have Air Force Bases in England? If we do, some may have a coin club. Email the Prez of a coin club, and maybe you can work something out with a club member. Or send them a book that's hard to find in GB. Just an idea. Their shipping, through the APO, will be very inexpensive. Also check out Vera Trinder, bookseller, she has stamp catalogs, not sure about coin catalogs.
I simply do not understand why a grading guide specific to UK coins is needed. I have always graded all world coins similarly.
And even without eBay ... if you buy it from amazon.de (third party offer), it costs €27 which would be about $36. http://www.amazon.de/gp/offer-listing/B00EKYFLJM/ In used condition, it is a little less. Christian
Unlike eBay, Amazon does not post that information, only how many copies are still available, both new and used, and also if a Kindle version is available, which there is for $9.
Seems like the Kindle is the way to go there. I got a couple coin books on my Fire and they are quite nice. My last Kindle was black and white only so I avoided books with full color illustrations or photos. If you don't have tablet Detecto the computer software is free.
Simple. Tim knows people will respond and do the research he's too lazy to do himself... for him... for free.
Simple indeed: The topic is here because somebody asked a question ... and others replied. Nothing wrong about that. Of course there may be questions that others may find dumb or lazy, but then nobody here is obliged to post any response. The initial post made me curious, so I clicked the link, saw that the books are not offered by Amazon but by third party sellers. That is why looked it up elsewhere and posted my reply. Would indeed be very interesting to know whether anybody is willing to pay exorbitant prices like $700 or more ... Christian
It happens a lot with numismatic books. I buy a lot of books, especially older, out of print books. I always find outrageously priced copies for sale. Seems some sellers business model is to simply post scarce books at outrageous prices hoping one in 100 might sell for that. With a low cost to post, and low cost to store, I guess why not? Numismatic books are just as important to educate yourself on the market as the coins they cover. I bet you I could find every book on ancients I own for sale today for anywhere from 4 times to 10 times what I paid for it online.
