Wondering what's going on here. Is this some sort of annealing issue here? Front is almost a charcoal gray where reverse is normal. There are some marks on the chin that I am also unsure of and the last pic is just showing a crack. Any and all insight is appreciated!

Yes. If a coin is laying flat in some environment than both sides are not receiving equal exposure to whatever caused the darkening. Extra metal on a die could be anything that has come into contact with or affixed itself to the die. And for the record, annealing problems usually affect the entire planchet.
Extra metal come from striking at times metal come off a New planchet and sticks to striking die. Environmental can come from too many things to list. I hope that helps .
