I bought a set of cents that all have verdigris on them. Should I soak them in olive oil. They are all worth helping. Most have a greenish tint to them others have some corrosion. I believe they were all found metal detecting. whats the best way to try to preserve them
I know, but I need to stop the corrosion, or in 100 years when I go to look at them there may be nothing left
I would soak in acetone for a short time and then rinse again with fresh acetone to clean any oils , etc, off of the coin and then use verdi-care. However I would not expect complete removal as some damage appear to be small pits which will be difficult to remove ( limited surface area for the VC to work).
Im 35 now. I'm banking on continued advances in medical science over the next 50 years, and avoiding getting run over by a bus.
Me I'm 37 and I'm not holding my breath I never intended to live that long anyway basically I'm gonna live til I die and I'm gonna have a good time until then I have too much love for hard work beer vodka steak pizza fast cars and fast women to worry about it
Use a glass dish with a cover. Soak a few coins at a time for 2 or 3 hours. Pour off that acetone and do a second bath with fresh acetone. See what you have at that point. No rubbing of any kind. I used to take before and after images. Keep in mind that the coin might not look any better. As the junk is removed from the coin, tiny marks will show more and the surface of the coin under the junk may be ugly.
