PCGS Submission question

Hopefully this isn’t a dumb question. But PCGS offers several different services, each with a “Maximum Coin Value”:

    Regular $3000
    Economy $300
    Modern $1000

Which service do I select if I have several coins that are <$300, a few over $300 and another that is possibly over $3000?

Will they just charge the fee for that different service (for that particular coin)?

It's "up to" $300, or $1000, or $3000. Those are the maximums for the service provided. So If it's over $3000 you have to use express level service.

And if you have several to send together and one is higher than $3k, then you have to send them ALL express service. (So only one service level per submission).

So it'd actually be cheaper to send all of them in on one service and send another all by itself with another service. Just seems odd.

And how do I know the value when that's completely dependent upon grade/authenticity?

    rickmp Frequently flatulent.

You have to assume it's authentic and judge the grade yourself to decide the value for insurance purposes.

You can also use the PCGS price guide on their website (based upon what you think it'll grade).

If the last coin is "possibly" over $3000, I assume it is also possibly under $3000, dependent upon grade, and therefore qualifies as part of a regular grading submission. They just frown upon submittors trying to sneak a coin into regular submissions that is obviously worth more than $3000.

The savings in fees on the difference between regular and express grading on that single coin probably justifies submitting several economy coins as regular to lump all together in one single submission. Especially since separate submissions incur an extra $8 handling charge, AND separate return shipping expenses.

You can send one coin valued at $3000 express & five coins in at economy in the same shipment. What you need to do is have them on separate submission forms. There is no minimum at PCGS for submissions.(Except show economy & gold submissions.) So you can have (1) economy ,(3) express , (2) regular or whatever . The coins can be requested to be held until all are finished going through the process & ship back all at once .Or they can be mailed back with the charges for the different times they ship & value levels.
