Hi all, Sorry for the rushed post. I have an offer on this coin that I want to buy and wanted to know if you guys thought it was real and worth paying 70$ for. Thanks in advance Larry
Well if you really want those pin scratches... I actually don't know, but I feel I needed to point out that it's been harshly cleaned with the aforesaid pin (behind the head and possibly elsewhere).
I can't tell you anything about the coin, but what's the rush? Do you not have time to investigate it thoroughly? Rushing a purchase is always a bad idea.
I guess u are both right. Do you think the price is steep for such a coin? I did notice the scratches but the wear is not bad. Is it real?
I agree. If not for the scratches behind the head, I like the piece. I buy GB coins occasionally when I am bored. Last weekend I picked up a decent, (not cleaned, which is hard to find), Crown from 1820 just out of sheer boredom. It was gVFish.
--genuine and it has hearts in semee on the reverse--price in coin book £35 about $50--these are common, they were minted in 1787 and a few years after
Victoria crowns are really nice ........ I have a few. Chunky silver with beautiful George and dragon reverse..
I rush in all the time, but I am just beginning to learn that these coins always come around again and sometimes you just have to pass up some. Its hard...very hard. Good decision...you'll get a better one than that, far better for the money asked. plus, think how fun it will be having this as your 2014 goal....to get a better one than the coin you passed on, you'll be well chuffed when you do it, and be sure to post pics of it too!!
Thanks yoc I have already purchased 3 on eBay today. I will certainly post them ASAP. I have been bidding more lately, buy it now could get expensive. I know I'll find a good deal. If it weren't for those scratches I would have gotten it. It's on eBay as we speak. I offered him 55 with 5 dollar shipping. His final counter was 65. I just couldn't bring myself to except.
Hate to sound like Yoda or something, but there are always other coins. As much as you might really want a coin, the one thing in 35+ years of collecting I have learned is very shortly there will be a new object of desire waiting you. The old adage is true, if you do not LOVE the coin right away, eventually you will not even LIKE it. Patience.
two varieties of these--like this one with hearts and without hearts on the reverse--don't forget to get both
