I'm starting an ancient coin approval service.

You know, like CAC. Except most collectors of ancients don't like slabs, so for your convenience, I'll be marking the coins with an ink stamp. For a mere $24.99 per coin plus shipping and handling, you'll be freed of the tedium of boring research, and you'll no longer need to formulate your own opinions and wonder if they jibe with the opinions of the smart people.

Now that's truly an idea suitable to an ultracrepidarian!

I think this is a great idea. Though you may want to consider having the stamp a little more in the theme of ancients. How about if it says Visum Et Approbatum, or 'Seen and Approved'. There may be some issues getting all the words onto an AE4 or obol, but then as collectors of ancients they probably wouldn't mind if things are just slightly off flan.

No problem, Ken. John will include a free bumper sticker, "Visum Et Approbatum". You can put it right next to your "My other car is a snake-drawn biga" sticker.

Customers who prefer stickers can upgrade to smiley level for an additional $7.95 plus surcharges and excise.

you should stamp it with a chisel like device, you know, to leave an impression that will fight counterfeiting

    "PROB" is definitely better.

If the coin turns out to be fake, you can squirm out of it by saying the "PROB" meant "PROBably real".
