    Is this allowed?

E.g., "Up for bid is (this coin). Bidding starts at $1.00 and ends at midnight on Sunday, January 19th."

    And people post their bids?

    doug444 STAMPS and POSTCARDS too!

I don't know if it's allowed, but you should specify the minimum bidding increment, and postage, and where you won't ship. If it's OK, and it works for you, I'll try some auctions too. Maybe it should be a new, separate thread so readers don't have to spend half an hour searching for that week's auctions...

No, this is not allowed in this forum. You must go to the BST section to list items or sale, but even there I do not know if you can run your own auction.

May I ask why not? I would think it has come up before, and perhaps there was a bad experience, or the mods don't want to deal with the headaches, etc.

I am involved on another forum (non-coin related... Sort of) that allows this and everyone there seems to like it just fine. Avoids eBay fees, etc.

This is a rally good thought . A auction sub forum right here on CT wuld be totally awesome and folks would trust other members more than the ebay goof offs. I would auction off about all of my collection.

I could see big problems with this idea.
    1. If there's no official, countdown clock then someone could argue that they put in their bid last, not the other guy.
    2. If someone gets a coin and isn't happy they could start trashing the seller member, causing all sorts of drama.
    3. Who will people complain to if there's an issue? Mods? They don't get paid enough... or any.
    4. What if a coin is lost in the mail? Who's to believe? What's the solution?
    5. What if a new member joins and scams everyone?
    Etc etc etc.....

I could envision this board quickly being barren of true coin discussion and limited to sales threads dominated by everyone who read there was a free auction site.

  11. I am guessing that Peter and Doug will not allow this to happen here. How about listing items in the Items for Sale section and state that the best offer by a certain time gets to buy that item? This could be done via PM or in reply to the post.

i think it needs to be well thought out, have very strict, well laid out rules, completely lift liability from the forum itself...but is a GREAT idea...

i mean, the mods or owner could even drop a tiny percentage fee requirement, like, 50cents per closed auction, or 1%....those tiny percents add up...ie, Office Space

I don't think it's allowed, and I don't think it's a good idea for the same reasons that the other members posted.

Other than #1, I think that all of these apply to normal sales as well?

Mods? Would this be allowed? I'll be the guinea pig with a 1999 WAM, terms to be hammered out to your satisfaction?

It seems that people are asking Peter, Doug and the mods to take on a lot of extra work to save a few people a few dollars. Ebay ( whether you like it or not) and paypal are far better equipped to do this and safer for the buying members. I would still use eBay/Paypal for any auctions than something like here or other forums. If you like it, join that forum and list your auctions there. Peter once gave the members a game forum, and it no longer exists because of rule violations. There were rules against politics, religion, etc., but people kept violating them so he made a different forum for that, but we still get people violating the rules rather than posting there, because they feel it is their right to do so.

Peter makes the decision, but if he asks the staff, I will vote no. Sorry.

Why not just list the price take it or leave it?

Mostly because I don't know the true value (somewhere between $60 and $90, based on eBay, but some are bundled, grades vary, etc.)

I'm not trying to stir up trouble. I just wondered if it had been considered, which I've heard (indirectly) that it has.

It seems to be a free-market kind of thing. I guess I'll just list it fixed price and see what happens.
