I bought the complete Union proof set for 1957 NGC graded for my Christmas gift. From dad to dad. I would like share the 2.5 Shillings since it is one of the beautiful South African coins made in my opinion. KM# 51 SOUTH AFRICA 2-1/2 Shillings proof.
Hi Mat, Interesting that we both like the same coins. I've tried to get an aureus of Gallienus although from the details yours looks like a multiple aureus piece. My name is Gallienus but I've no exceptional coin of him. Instead my avatar is only Claudius II, who assasinated Gallienus in 268. One day I may get a coin of Gallienus & then I'll change my avatar. On the Panamanian balboas, I go down to Panama yearly as we have a house down there. There is an excellent coin collecting society in Panam City and once I had the chance to pick some 1931 Balboas from basically a mint state roll of the things. As you know this type was made in 1931, 34, and 47 (which is very common in unc). www.coinsandhistory.com/coin-htmls/Panama_1B_1931.html Actually I tend to put a lot more resources into Latin American coins than Ancients as of the past few years.
Gallienus is my favorite roman emperor. As for panama, I have silver versions of the smaller denominations but not the balboa. I plan on getting one eventually, even a cleaned one would be fine. I dont mess with moderns much but some peak my interest & I buy one.
I was buying some coin in Santiago this weekend and went through the bins and found some stuff I liked, which the seller gave away for free. This is one of the coins I got for mahala, KM# 13 Ethiopia GERSH EE1889 minted in Paris (A)
I think the local coin shop has one in their junk silver bin (VF30-EF40 range). Want me to pick it up for you?
The smallest coin added to my collection to date. I imagine that many were for lost during that time. KM# 143.1 PERU 1/4 Real 1841 (13 mm),
