I think NGC slabs are ugly compared to PCGS and even ICG slabs. I know the slab has nothing to do with the quality of the service and I agree with most that NGC is one of the best grading services. However, their slabs look awful to me. The rectangular shape filled in white. I think it looks cheap. I personally prefer the clear look of other TPG slabs. The clear look seems like the coin is suspended in the air which I find much nicer, IMO. I also don't like the edging on the NGC slabs. It's too think and doesn't have a rounded modern feel to them. If I were CEO of NGC changing the slab would be one of the first, if not the first, things on my to-do list.
Yes. But I'm anal and like my stuff to look uniform. I like the fact that PCGS slabs fit perfect with Coin World Premier slabs so I can slab my own for display/storage. It's a more uniform look. I just am not a fan of the old staple shut cardboard holders. Makes me feel like I'm 12 again. My NCG stuff sticks out like a sore thumb....so much so that I'm tempted to crack them out and put in Coin World slabs.....Yea, I'm ate up I guess.
I do agree with you on everything you said. However it is a matter of preference. I also like continuity so if trying to put a set together, verse say a random coin of enjoy, I try to keep the slabs in that set the same.
This reference means nothing as these aren't the slabs being used at the moment. I completely disagree with your opinion. I think the edge view ngc holder looks classy and being able to see the rims is an important aspect for me. The PCGS slab looks like a piece of cheap plastic manufactured in a Chinese Toy Factory
I used to greatly prefer NGC slabs, but in past year or so I have completely flip-flopped. Not sure what it I, I just like the PCGS slabs better now. I guess it's the difference between a white frame that sticks out and a clear frame that fades away.
Might not be the exact same slabs they are slabbing with today, but they are probably the most common one around. Also, the changes to today's slabs are not much different.
I have to agree with Fred forte most part, I think the NGC slabs look better than the PCGS. I also really like the black retro-slabs that NGC offered at the end of last year.
Surely the best slab is one where the back is your hand and the front is air? I wouldnt want to own a coin I couldnt handle. I know its all about preservation of investment, but........
I prefer the NGC slabs over the PCGS slabs. I dont know what it is, but they just seem more professional than the PCGS ones which look cheap IMO. Sure NGC slabs are more expensive with premiums, I still like them lol
The coin is obviously the main attraction. However, the slab can add to its appeal. Wouldn't you rather have a nice coin in a nice looking slab, as opposed to a not so nice looking slab?
It's too bad ICG isn't widely considered as good of a TPG as PCGS or NGC cause I think they have the nicest slab. I'm not saying it's a perfect slab - just saying it's the nicest of all that exist, in my opinion.
