Well...I live quite far from coin dealers and the coin dealers speak a language I don't know...so if I buy a modern off the internet I would like a little assurance that the coin is real.

But I actually haven't pulled the trigger on any coins lately. Just military trade tokens and I don't think the counterfeiters have moved into that market.

My thought is simple, because I think simple thoughts. If there were no modern coins to buy, some of those coin collectors would buy coins I like and thus bid me up on eBay. Some might leave the hobby but there would be those that would shift. Example- I buy errors. If congress passed a new law and made it illegal to own errors I would stop. The portion of my yearly coin budget I spend on errors would not end but simply shift into buying other types of coins. This would increase the demand for coins that have a finite supply. Price goes up.

Why would there be a 68 or less. Submitters don't submit screwed up coins....:D....at least I don't.

You keep thinking what you think though......hahahahahahahahahahahahaha

I could probably dream up scenarios where your half dime's value would go from anywhere between $1 to a $zillion-billion. I just think you are overstating the effect of the modern slabs and they actually probably bring more people into the hobby (more bids overall) with nice attainable coins, and then those people move into niche items.

:D...30 coins got less than 69, so what, it was a new coin that nobody had ever seen. Have you ever graded a Buffalo? I have and lots of them.

Still not sure what this thread is really about - some people like to collect moderns and some like to collect older coins. Nothing wrong with collecting either - but there is no use in trashing someone else's collecting choices. Bottom line is supply and demand drives all the prices. That is why you can get some rare coins cheaply and some not so rare coins at high prices. Just look at the 09-S VDB - those are always available. I think Chris showed how moderns can be very useful.

Someday I'll be dead and all my coins will be worthless to me. In the meantime, if I like a coin, I buy it.
