I just received my first investment in silver, a 2014 Maple Leaf Monster Box. My question for anyone out there who can help a 'newbie' is how do I store it? I have gold coins which seem to be fine stored anywhere/anyhow. Since silver is a more reactive metal, how does this change storage? I'm moving to SC in the spring (from Boston) so the environment will be far hotter and more moist. I intend to keep the box sealed from the mint, should I somehow tape the opening on the box? Thanks in advance for your help, Id hate to make a rookie mistake and mess up the 500 coins.
If you're going to keep it sealed, what difference does it make? Not only that, but since its a bullion "investment", what does it matter? The metal doesn't change. Aside from the obvious, your best bet would be to store the box in a cool, dry area of the home. A closet comes to mind. OR, rent a Large Safety Deposit box in a large bank that has a good air conditioning system.
Find another container that the box will fit inside of, like a large Tupperware bin. Store that in a cool, dry place as instructed. But, also make sure that you use silica gel packs inside that bin to help control humidity. And check them and recharge or change them as necessary.
