Just got a nice shiny proof South Dakota 2006 S coin in change from the bagel store. I think this is the first time that has happened to me when I wasn't roll hunting.

Sorry for the poor-ish picture. I'm not a very good numismatic photographer.

thanks. i had some friends in from england and was just looking at my change when i found it. i was telling them about my find and of course they weren't super impressed because they don't really have mintmarks in england. then they asked me if the quarter is the biggest coin that people use in america and said they are still struggling telling them all apart.

    p.s. they just arrived yesterday.

Is it the silver version? Check the edge for copper or lack thereof

no it isn't, but thanks for the reminder. i sort of forget they do a million versions now of all the coins including silver and clad proof versions. this is basically why i don't collect anything but circulation coins post-2000.

yeah but sometimes they dont make a million, or a million just inst enough. There are two modern silver proof sets that seen this happen. The 1999 Silver set and the 2012 Silver Set. I about choked when I tried to buy a 2012 set and the dealer said it was over $120. That was about 6 months ago, now im subscribed so I will receive a yearly Silver proof set and wont have to worry about that happening again.

But dont write off all modern coins just yet, some still remain players, the 1999 is still up after 14 years, so every now and then you can find a good buy thats worth the money.

ETA: You also cant go too wrong with the Silver Proof set, very attractive way to own silver and current coinage issued out of historic metals like days of old

Oh it's up alright, but nowhere near 'up' enough for what I paid in the aftermarket. I could kick myself for not waiting till the end of the (State Quarters) program. Mark me people. If I ever state that I'm buying a particular item, and you need it too for your collection, wait a day or two after I buy it...........guaranteed the market price on the item will have dropped like a stone. :)

I did well with mine from what I can remember, paid maybe $120 for it here on CT last year or earlier this year. Werent those things at like $500+ in 2000-2001 or so?

Yeah Trey, they were stupid money. I think I paid somewhere around $350 in '08. Live and learn......:)

I think this is something that will happen to all of us if we stay in the game long enough. But hey, you cant win em all.
