I bought a coin I had no business buying. I liked it when I saw but have no interest in trying to put together a Liberty Seated set. How much do you think I will lose? Paid $165.00.

If you like the coin you aren't going to lose anything.

Ha. I know I paid a lot. Like I said, no business buying this type of coin. Here is the original listing. I don't really mind that I'm going to lose money, I just thought it would be kind of fun to guess what it will sell for when I relist.

Here are larger pictures of the coin. Are the scratches in the field at left what they consider corrosion?

It is a very pretty coin and $165.00 was a fair price for it as it is. A problem free AU-53 of this date is about $220.00. Put it back on eBay for $165.00 to minimize whatever loss you might incur.

My honest opinion is that you wont lose TOO bad, you will do better than half and im thinking $125 ish is where it will end. Thats a decent coin and I cant even see the corrosion on it. Consider it tuition.

When you add the photo hit the FULL IMAGE tab instead of the THUMBNAIL tab. Smilin_Susie.jpg

Thanks for helping w the pics. I will list it and see what happens. I thought the dark area to the right is what they r calling the corrosion. I'm really not sure.

Ya know, my advice on this coin would be to either sit on it for a little while and see if you cant work out a trade for it or something that is beneficial to you and not lose your shirt on. Theres people out there who bought $6 silver and could afford to give up $140-$150 in silver today for a coin they might like. Is there any real hurry to sell now?

Another thing you might try and some may see this as unethical, but it is done all the time. Crack it out and take it to your local guy and see what he would offer. The reason I say crack it out of the slab is because with a designation like corrosion that none of us has been able to see even with high res pictures you may have an upgradeable coin, or at least incorrectly graded. Now quite a few people will jump up here and say thats unethical, but many of those same folks would also try and send it back to NGC or PCGS for a better grade or problem free slab. So whats the difference is my question there?

If none of that works, just list it on ebay as a raw coin and see where the pieces fall. In this case though that slab is definitely hurting the coin as we cant readily see the problem, and ANACS may have been too harsh. NGC or PCGS could very well slab this coin and thats a wild card factor none of us can safely agree on because weve all seen it go both ways so frequently.

Myself, i would buy the coin, its attractive and the hairlines im seeing look more like die polish than cleaning marks, but in the end the decision will be up to you. Patience will be your virtue on this one.

Oh and if you do crack the slab, keep the little tab so you can verify this is actually where it came from. That would be a great coin for a 7070 Dansco for $125-$140.

One other thing, what is the consensus on the toning? That looks natural to me, but before cracking I would get other opinions on if that is Market Acceptable toning or not.

I think it looks nice, but I agree that the slab might be holding it back. If it wasn't in the slab I don't know if anyone would have a problem paying that price.... as far as ethical... maybe not, but it's done every single day on eBay.
