1940 wheat penny.

    do you see something different or error in this coin? look at the "i" in Liberty.

    Oh come on folks... we can at least TRY to be helpful! Happycoins, it is probably caused by the mint's use of a worn die. I wouldn't consider this an error, but it certainly is fun to go through our stock and look for these anomalies! (Great clarity on your pics, by the way).

    The thinner "I" could be caused by PMD, or by grease material getting in the side of the incluse "I" of the die. Worn dies would tend to make the "I" as fat as the other letters.

    Post mint damage, the I has been pushed over. This seems to happen easily to the 1 in dates too.

    Damage. I would guess by a coin roller, but either way...damage.

    It's interesting how straight and uniform the I still is. I'm thinking it was pushed over.
    At the same time it's possible grease filled part of each side of the I on the die. Just thinking out of the box a bit. Could a worn or damaged, grease filled die create something like this?

    No - You can see the displaced metal to the left of the I where it was pushed.
