I know my history. England still controls Canada and it is not a State of the U.S. so what does that have to do with your view on this coin?

He was trying to say if Benedict Arnold succeeded there would be no present day Canada, thus no 25th anniversary maple. ;)

It's part of their bullion issue which they don't sell directly to the public; from their press release:
"In keeping with a distribution model common to the world’s major issuers of bullion coins, the Mint does not sell bullion directly to the public. Interested buyers are encouraged to contact a reputable bullion dealer to order this special limited edition 25th anniversary Silver Maple Leaf bullion coin, which will be available as of early December 2013."

Yes, 525 mintage on the gilded version; 1,000,000 mintage on the silver only 25th anniversary version.

So is there no real demand for the coin?

There is a small group of Canadian collectors who chase all the RCM silver maple leaf issues, and this is one NCLT item that will probably not fall below issue price, ever.

Imagine what the prices would reach, if someone at the US Mint decided to gild only 525 silver eagle coins....
