Not all buyers are in need of good examples to follow, but the subject pawn shop likely is . . . As for the coin, it looks to me like an AU58 in a PCGS or NGC holder, but in an ICG holder I think it will grade MS64.
Is ICG really that far off from PCGS or NGC? Usually, it is assumed they are a point or two more generous, if that. I personally have found ICG to be pretty accurate, but then again I am not one of the old school types who've been around since grading standards were supposedly more strict. As for the pawn shop, I posted on the other thread that I have established a good relation with it, offered them tips on coin grading and even offered my services in helping them sell their coins on eBay. Like Medoraman correctly noted, the pawn shop is happy with my business. As for the inappropriate flaming by a member in this thread, the issue is resolved as far as I am concerned, with the majority of members here feeling the onus is on the dealer in disclosing knowledge (I personally feel all parties are responsible to research the merchandise, but there's another thread for that and it's not appropriate here).
AU58 sounds about right. But I doubt ICG is that far off from PCGS or NGC. It probably is softer on grading, though.
According to Randy Cambpell of ICG, the coin in question is approximately MS63 or MS64. He said it was certainly MS, though. Regarding BUncirculated's comments that I am unethical, Randy Cambpell, a former President of FUN (who should know about ethics in the hobby), told me that I am not the one who set the prices so I did nothing wrong or unethical by buying this and other coins from the dealer. I would appreciate it if BUncirculated would stop derailing my threads. Not only is he wrong about his ethics but his grading was also off by about 10 points compared to a respected professional. He will be officially on ignore, and I hope the mods will prevent him from further disrupting my threads.
Claims to have me on ignore, but continuously goes out of his way to mention me in his posts. He flames, and derails himself!
Guys, its time to stop! There is certainly no need for it. Jolumoga, there is a misunderstanding about the ownership of any Thread. They belong to the forum and not the originator or any poster. No one can restrict any other member from posting as long as within the rules. However, any rule infraction , by originator or poster will draw action. So lets all mumble under our breath and move on. Thanks
I do have BUncirculated on ignore, though his posts appear when I am not actually logged in. I just happened to catch his post though. I want to be clear about something, because I really like collecting coins and I don't think it's right to be continually pestered by a person in multiple threads. BUncirculated: Please understand that when you accuse someone of being unethical, in my view that's a serious charge against another person's character. It is no longer about coins. I came in here to learn about coins. I did not come here to have to continually respond to someone claiming that I am a swindler. Please just leave me alone. If I were you, I'd respond privately and perhaps apologize. The irony is that despite your moral grandstanding, you have shown a lack of ethics by not at least acknowledging that there was gray area in this issue. In my personal view, using a public medium to put another person down in a needless manner is poor ethics. I am willing to make up with you because it is a holiday season. Can you please work with me to drop the grudge you have against me? This is getting ridiculous.
I don't claim to own any thread. I just find it creepy that this guy is PMing others to be alerted when I start a new thread, and then starts posting direct and indirect attacks.
