Grade This 1921 Peace Dollar

I know it's a tough, old-school crowd here, but here comes another Peace dollar.

What grade is this? I may, depending on the feedback from others, get this graded.

Sorry for the cheap camera. I got it in Prague some years ago while backpacking.

EF, but the surfaces look a little off. I'm thinking it would get a details grade due to an old cleaning. Nice coin though!

 

I think the photos are too angled to accurately assess the grade.

 

I agreeWiTH xf 45, maybe lightly cleaned.

 

Impossible to grade! We need clearer and level photos.

 

It's hard to grade from pics , let alone angled ones . How about some straight ons . But if I had to guess I'd say anywhere from a high of AU-50 to XF-45 . Probably detailed .

 

I think you guys are way too generous for the fuzzy, angled photos.

 

OK, I might have angled the photos too much. I'll keep that in mind for next time. As for the fuzziness, like I said it's a cheap camera.

Thanks for the replies. What I plan to do is use the guesses here and in the other thread as a basis for the accuracy or inaccuracy of the guesstimates in this forum. I know the sample in both threads isn't too high (nor too low), but it's still a gauge.

1921 Peace dollars a bit tricky though because they seem to lack very defined detail. But I grant that this coin could get a details grade.

 

It may be a cheap camera, but surely it has a Macro setting somewhere down in the menu? If not I would consider ditching the souvenir camera and getting something name brand and new. We need sharp closeups before attempting to grade a coin.

So you will judge the entire forum based on the accuracy of the guesses on this and one other thread, which are themselves based on your fuzzy, angled photos from a cheap camera? Do I understand you correctly? Pretty convoluted logic there, but ok....
How are you judging the 'accuracy' of the grades opined? Will you send it off for grading regardless to see who was closest? Or is it simply a case of 'those whose grades are too dissimilar from mine are just plain wrong'?

If this sounds harsh it is because the idea that those who humor you by giving opinions on a grade based on pictures that, if used in an eBay auction most here who may bid would consider it a gamble at best, are themselves (and the forum as a whole) being judged for their opinions. That's kind of insulting to me as a regular member of this forum.

You can see the 'guess the grade' threads here where that could actually be done, and still isn't, because they are posted as more of a tool to hone a skill than as a way to tell whose grading opinions are more accurate. And they aren't posted in 'what's it worth'.

Since this is in 'what's it worth' I and others deem it to be a question of the grade/value of your coin.... Not an assessment of the capabilities of the membership.

 

If I understand correctly, Silent is 100% right. I respect that you want a gauge on the grading abilities of this forum, but when the images used are questioned by half of the people replying you must figure that your gauge is going to be flawed.

As Silent said, this is the "what's it worth" section, grading opinions are given as a Courtesy to help the poster understand a ballpark of what, their coin could be worth.

The only reason I posted was to try and help someone who was seeking information and may not have access to a local coin dealer. These opinions are a service, not a paid function.

 

Yeah, like I said it's a cheap camera and the angles weren't good, so you may have a point. Don't worry, I am not going to use anything against you.

Whether my effort is flawed, I think it's a worthwhile endeavor, from a statistical and numismatic standpoint, to try to gauge the accuracy of a large group of collectors, at the collective level. There is the belief that the markets, when large enough and complex, may reveal more than individual participants. But I accept your point though, so I won't belabor this. Personally, I suspect there may be undergrading in these forums. But I have no way to prove it, since I am not a professional. Also, it seems grading standards are subject to change over time, as the hobby evolves.

You provide the crappiest of crappy pics, ask for members' opinions on grade, and will use those opinions to judge our ability to grade coins from online photos, seriously?

BUncirculated is most definitely over 50. I cannot imagine someone finding this thread that entertaining (even if it was clumsy from the get-go), and even PMing other members over it as if it's some novelty.

By the way, I will be lifting weights tonight as I have more productive things to do than PM people over what threads others started (and I doubt BUncirculated really put me on ignore).
