Would you marry it (buy it to add to your collection)?

Got to admit it's a winner. I saw a beautifully toned coin I'm hitting myself for not purchasing recently. Hard to afford everything, money is an issue for most these days.

I'm not much for rainbow toning but that coin is an eye catcher.

    Not a proof.

And yes I bought it some time ago.

PCGS did not like it some much.

    AU code .91

    The AU is laughable

Nice coin. I stopped sending these in a few years ago, both NGC and PCGS hate them.

Thank goodness there are other TPGs! If PCGS and NGC can't tell if toning is natural or not then that doesn't say much for either of them IMHO. Sounds like they are both becoming worse and not better in terms of grading and work. Their new holders are ugly. I see them give grades like poor/fair details. So which one is it? Coins that should receive grades they refuse to grade.

Anymore, rejection is more about the fact that a coin that doesn't meet their "look" criteria - rather than determining if a coin is AT/NT. I've seen a lot of legit, unaltered copper coins get rejected.

I love these coins, who cares about the TPGs! It's all about collecting IMO.

They would not slab this one....but I know the story. A customer (seller) brought this into my fav local B&M. I was the second person to see the amazing set it came from. It an old Wayte Raymond album/coin-board. A few of the Lincolns were toned like this one.

I'd try PCI if you want to put a slab on something like it to help sell it.

i think there is something wrong with me. while i do greatly respect the rarity, amazing condition, back-story, etc on all coins....i cannot convince myself to actually spend money on any coin that is not composed of silver or gold. does anyone else suffer this? i think it is because of my finance background and the safety net i imagine exists due to their precious metal content
