I don't have any reference books about Canadian coins, was hoping someone could fill me in as what dates are considered to be the Keys and Semi Keys. I've seen a lot of Canada coins listed from the early part of the 20th century and after finding a 1931 and a 1934 Penny, it's kinda peaked my interest. I'm hoping someone can tell me the dates or a website that can tell me what the keys are for 1c, 5c, 10c, 25c, 50c, and 1 dollar coins? Any help is appreciated!
The prices listed there vs. Krause prices vs actual retail prices are a bit off (sale prices have been much lower, in my experience, than those two references.) But it's a great place to start. Or you could PM me and I'll send you a Christmas present.
BigTee44, one of my friends told me he used the PCGS registry site to quickly identify keys/semi keys when he first started collecting Canadian coins. He checked the weighting on the coins in the Set Composition looking for higher weightings. Like this one for Canadian circulation cents: http://www.pcgs.com/SetRegistry/SetComposition.aspx?c=383 The '31 you mention is weighted a 2 vs the '34 being rated a 1; I suspect due to mintage. Anyway, it sounded to me like a quick way to make up a list keys & semi keys for each of the denominations; I'd still reference it against the website posted above as there could be varieties that are not part of the Set Compositions.
