well, here's the last of my coins. i was going to spend all my cash on one nice bronze, but couldn't find one i liked for a price i was willing to pay. so instead i purchased several budget coins that appealed to me for various reasons. here's the first one.....

(P M TR P) XIII COS III (PP)
    ric 538

one thing that drew me to this coin is that it is dated (xiii on the reverse) and another is the size, big and heavy....feel great in hand...3mm thick. in the flip was a paper dated '84 in which the guy (or girl) wrote down all the details of the coin and them some, everything but the shoe size of the guy who struck it...and where it was minted ...was this in rome?

Sweet coin Chris, i love these great big pond skippers, what a thick puppy and still has good details with just a bit of a rub...

Nice big, heavy coin. Can you imagine a purse full of these?

seller has listed as syd 522a, but that doesn't quite match up.

at first i thought my coin had a corroded area in the mountain, till i noticed most of the coins have that little "dip" in the top. here are some pics of the mountain today (in central turkey, a good ski spot..mount erciyes now)..

and there is the "dip". guess this is an inactive volcano...neato.

Lovely reverse. I still want a coin with mount argeus on it too. They're easy to find but I just havent gotten around to getting one.

They must be fairly easy to find as I own two. Both are coins of Antonius Pius and are from Caesaria, Cappadocia:

that first one is killer bing! anyone know the significance of the star that is usually above, but sometimes below the crater?

a nice mountain coin would be a great wagon buster stevex....i give you permission to go ahead and buy one to post there. :)

Great coins Chris! To my knowledge, all the Mount Argeus types are from Cappadocia. Am I right? Or did another city also use the design?

thanks JA! in my limited searching trying to ID this coin, the only one's i've seen with mout argeus are from caesarea in cappadocia.

yes, that is a very cool sight, eh?

Coincidentally, this is the view from the house where I grew-up (Victoria BC), looking across the ocean at your good ol' United States!! (Mount Baker, Washington State)

... my 90 year ol' father still lives in this house that he built over 60 years ago!!

Hey, that one house has a pool ... that's kinda the same thing, no? (no)

Yah Jango, I sure grew-up in a wonderful place (I will go back home and retire there as well) ... I guess that's why I've been living in Northern Manitba for the past 23 years (I guess the whole life experience thingy has to even-out in the long-run?)
