Bought this for my 20th Century Type set, looked nice and now that I have it in hand I love it even more. What do you think the grade on it is?

Roger Dodger, I'd call it an EF-45, but I'm looking at it on a 7 inch screen so...... :)

Very nice, you can can almost see the split tail on the Buffalo. That is a strong strike for a Buffalo in the teens. When you take it out of the holder, post some better pics.

my coin desk is a bit of a mess and I'm getting ready to head out, I'll try and get one taken with my good setup tomorrow. This was just taken with my phone.

It looks to be uncirculated to me but I would have to see a better image of the coin out of the cellophane. Here's one from my collection. Grade this one if you would like and later on I will reveal the grade of this pcgs 1917. We can then compare it to your 17. Remember the hip bone and flank is the first place to look for rub. I see many Buffs listed as MS, BU or uncirculated with images that clearly show the hip bone and flank showing some serious rub, it's funny. Ya also need to keep in mind the the first place to show rub is also the last point on the coin to "full Out" when struck. So, as a result this area "hip bone & flank" will sometimes show a bit of a flat spot, not to be confused with "RUB".

I wish mine looked that nice!!

I only paid $6 for it so I didn't plan on it being MS. I was thinking high XF to AU

If you paid $6.00 for it you did real good. Please do show us a better image of this one. Congrats on such a good deal!!

I would say yours is nicely struck, but not fully struck. Based off the pictures I would put yours at 65 based off the luster. Very nice coin.

As for the OP's coin I would put it at XF-45 also. Nice little coin.

Here's an image of an XF-45 from the pcgs coin facts. I believe the OP's coin is in much better condition than this XF-45 I'm showing ya here....

Notice the hip bone and flank. It's almost all flat. You nailed my Buff. It is an MS-65.....

The new images make me think AU50. The hairlines will keep it from an MS holder.

I will go AU and better than a 50.

With these new images I would be more inclined to lean towards AU-55 ....Still, a VERY nice purchase especially with the price you paid. Nice Buff!!!!

It is very nice - but I think I will stick with XF. Of course I would not be surprised if graded it went a little higher. It is a nice coin.

Think acetone would get that brown mark off the reverse?

In my opinion, this coin is not a good choice to use acetone on.
It will make the hairlines and other tiny marks show up more.

That "brown mark" looks to me to be improperly mixed alloy - aka woody. If you look closely, there is a corresponding mark on the obverse. If I am correct, the only way to remove it would be to remove the patina. In other words, harshly clean the coin. No, you do not want to do that.
