Which Morgans make the best investments? And what is a good price to buy them at?

I think people have been trying to figure that out for years! One piece of advice I've gotten in the short time I've been collecting is that this is a hobby, not an investment vehicle. There are a lot of better investment vehicles out there than coins.

That being said, if you want to purchase coins that will hold their value and potentially appreciate, buy rarer date coins in high grades. In Morgans, the CC mint mark is always in demand. GSA holdered coins have also done well.

Definitely well said . If anyone knew we'd all be rich . Coins are really a lousy investment . Even when you look at GSA Morgans I bought in the early '70s for $30 , with inflation I actually lost money . Also If your relatives put all their money into precious metals 200 years ago or even when it was $35 an oz. you'd have lost money .

If I were to invest in Morgans for a profit, I would look at the current price list and pick the high valued dates in the lowest grades, and try to obtain them at the least possible prices.
If I spent $35.00 on a coin and sold it for $50.00. I would think I made a $15.00 profit, whether it was over a 5 day or 5 year period, inflation or not. In most cases the price you bought a coin for thirty years ago, the value of the coin has probably exceeded inflation rates. That being said, right or wrong, I am not a seller of my own coins. I agree with the majority that coin investing is not a worth while gamble and collecting should be for the enjoyment of the collector.

I buy EF/AU coins based upon their silver content and have done very well when the price of silver moves higher.

So now that gold and silver are down , do you think it's a good time to buy or will it go lower in your opinion . I realize nobody knows for sure , but some are able to make well educated guesses .

Everyone is different, but I do not mind throwing back a hundred or several hundred of these at a time and allowing them to sit until the market turns north. You can view them as a type of risk diversification with a built in, albeit moving, floor.

Moving floors, along with a shot of bourbon, make me dizzy.......

Most likely the reason why I collect and not invest. :)

I hear ya Ken , If I was investing I'd be going nuts watching the auctions and what they were going for . I'd rather just learn more and enjoy this great hobby
