Picked this up. I have to admit I did halfway just for the tag. I own some nicer examples already, but who can resist a Spink and Son tag, huh?

For those who don't know, the Kushano Sassanians were the Sassanid Persians who, after defeating the Parthians, defeated the Kushans. For some reason they set up a currency system in the former Kushan territories that mirrored what the Kushans had. This is a reason this coin looks much more like a Kushan coin than a persian one.

Just a cheap purchase, but thought someone might find it interesting.

Obverse figure looks like a xmas tree.

    Still a neat pickup :)

Nice ... sadly, I must be out of the loop on the ol' SPINK & SON tag (but it does look old itself, so I'm assuming that it's from a reputable establishment?)

=> I love your new coin ... oh, and thanks for the wee bit of coin-history associated with the awesome new snag (congrats, medoraman!!)

Its a fairly new firm, only being founded in 1666. :) They publish RIC amongst many other things.

    A nice tag.
Unfortunately, it does not belong to the coin i am afraid.
For this is a quite common Kushan Kanishka quarter unit, eastern mint variety, with moongod Mao on the reverse. (should be around 18 mm, 4.1 grams)

Thanks. I thought it looked very Kushany, but was believing the tag. I will update my flip. :(

*rats* ... that's too bad ... I always like when things turn-out to be "positive" in the ol' ancient world!!

Eh, it was a $12 purchase. Serves me right for not looking it up myself. I will just throw it in the Kushan box and tear up the tag, no loss.

When I can get to the sdb I will post a few kushano sassanid coins i have in there I looked up myself.
