If you took a look at the press that was used by the Mint during that period, you would see that a second planchet (or third or fourth, etc.) would make no difference.

If I recall, there were diagrams of the various presses in Roger Burdette's book, From Mine to Mint, which covered the Mint operations for the period of the late 1830's to the mid-1930's.

55lwc (lincoln wheat cent) 95 think he meant lmc (lincln memorial cent) 2 true double dies.. theres also 72 lmc, check lincolnresourcecenter.com for pics or search ebay an check out ones selling there, you'll see difference between a double die and the MD on your coin...

Thanks for the info, been to both many times grin. Aren't the 55 and 95 ddo cents considered varieties or are they both errors? I have one of the 72's #9 (at least I think it is) One of these days I'm going to get up the nerve to send one out for certification.

Good to know. I would love to tour a mint, I've read about the processes but it's not the same as seeing machines in action!

This one is a 1984 cent with a rim error? This one baffles me, looks like edge reeding.

The 73 S does look like MD. I like the look of it, though.
The doubled ear...is your coin an 84? I think that was the year with the doubled ear...maybe 83. However, yours does look like the doubled ear.
As far as the rim, I have no clue what that is or may be from.

No not a doubled ear IMO. it kind of looks similar to the 97 cent doubled ear but not identical from looking at this photo. the 84 cent doubled ear is down below the original ear and shows part of another ear seperate from the original ear. the marks on the edge of the coin is probably from a blank punch getting worn and with wear marks on it.
