So if it was just painted what would make the black area turn red in the NW side of the reverse it looks like rust to me. All kinds of wierd things can happen when a coin gets overbaked.

the last picture only has auto fix and i raised the saturation which only brightens the colors that are already there .

Point taken. No more opinions from me. I don't know why I keep clicking on this thread anyway. I guess the same reason people stare at car wrecks.

A long soak in acetone may remove some of it. Few collectors will want it no matter what you do to it. It's just a damaged coin.

I want some of the acetone you have. "Magic Acetone...turns nickels into dimes!"

jral1 every coin you pull out of your pocket is not a error coin and this one is also not a error or even close to it. like I told you earlier this one has been in a fire and a lot of crud built up on it. I can even see in the photo where the crud buildup is flaking off , a sintered or improper annealed coin will not do this because the copper dust is struck into the coin by the coin dies. I can burn you a lot of coins when I burn the trash if you want some more of these ugly blackened coins.

You can ignore people, which in turn makes their threads invisible... ;)

Is that part of the new format? I saw other members before complaining that when they ignore a person, that person's started threads still pop up. Has that changed now (for the better IMO)?

Truth is, I would rather not ignore the OP because I'd like to be able to finally congratulate him for an authentic error find.... But I really think he's trolling. In doing so he's spamming the site and polluting the 'new posts' screen incessantly. He may be the first I have ever put on the list if this doesn't stop. Fast.

It is unfortunate that clowns like him wear thin the patience of those of us who take the time to help out the newbies. People like this are the reason otherwise very helpful and knowledgeable folks give brusque answers and can be curt with new members.

Perhaps one should look up the word "sintered" before they use it. The coin in question above shows no sign of being sintered except for the darker coloration. There is no granulation or porosity visible. Just a damaged coin.
