A rather spur-of-the-moment purchase, but seriously, how could you NOT buy this coin??

    Seller's notes...

Ex Langtoft hoard coin found near Driffield East Yorkshire in 2001 and disclaimed.

Originally sold as part of lot 82 at the Dix Noonan Webb sale on the 13th March 2002.

Beautiful VF coin with a dark tone and lots of the original silvering remaining, a superb example!

Wow JA ... that's a pretty sharp lookin' example!! (great eye-appeal)

=> Crisply struck, well centered, full legends, etc => full points, coin-brother!!

Awesome detail and a hoard coin, sweet addition. I love the detail on the helmet.

Two thumbs up on this coin. You are correct. I would have had to chain myself to the bedpost to keep from bidding tis coin. Beautiful for sure.

This little gem arrived yesterday. I knew the silver in the dealer's pic was more glare than silvering, but that's fine. It's an FDC LRB anyway, at least in my book.

I know we don't talk about grades higher than EF, but does anyone think this coin circulated in any sort of substantive way? It looks to me like the collector of the Langtoft hoard got it from the mint the day it was made, and stashed it away in his piggy bank.

I'm still hunting down some information on the piece, but I'll share my pic of it for now...

For those unfamiliar with the Roman vota, wiki sums it up pretty well...

Doesn't look like there is any wear on the obverse high points. The reverse was struck with a worn die. So, to me it looks virtually as-struck. I would guess that silvering could be lost due to storage environment rather than wear.

Thanks for the vota info, I did not know that.

Yes, indeed, and I am tempted by one of the others up for auction today. I will say, it's the fastest shipping I've ever experienced from the UK, or all of Europe for that matter. A big kudos for that!
