Hey guys, got another coin just today. Was wondering your thoughts on whether or not this one could possibly pass as an MS grade. I know there are some nicks on the obverse, but I thought it might still have a shot. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks !
This is a series that is well known to have weak strikes. All the contact marks are quite sharp on your coin, I would say that your coin entered circulation in a 'baggy' state to begin with, and is now AU-50.
Coins were released from the Royal Canadian Mint to various banks in canvas bags. The more those bags were travelled and were handled, the more contact marks the coins received prior to entering circulation.
I'll agree with others on the AU designation. The face is pretty flat and there are too many bag marks in my opinion - it may slide up though, if the grader is in a giving spirit.
Though bag marks doesn't make a coin circulated , I do agree with the AU grade though maybe a 55 - 58 from a tpg . The contact marks on your coin are mostly small hits that are more common from being in actual circulation , hit's on larger coins like 1/2 dollars tend to be quite large when obtained in a canvas bag . IMHO .
