I found six die clash pennies in this box. (just searched coppers so far) Five of them showing the T and Y on the reverse. One was a 1970-D with just the Y behind the column. They all have the jacket line also. This one is so cool. 1982 large date with a 2nd Y on top of the T. Was wondering about the thick lettering on the obverse?
http://varietyvista.com/01b LC Doubled Dies Vol 2/DDO 1982.htm Looks like it could be 001 stage D,the die clash matches and the doubling also looks possible @Coppertop can you get better close up's as the attribution shows.
I will try. Hard to get the lighting just right. Wish I could have seen it new before the letters got worn down. The attribution clearly shows doubling. I think mine is die deterioration.
potty-dollar-1878 Here are some close-ups of the lettering for what it is worth. The I in LIB is fatter on the top and the right top of the Y. But with so much wear, it is hard to tell.
Correct. You are seeing die wash at the base of the outer devices. The 001 is one of the more obvious DDOs for the date. Earlier die states, the coins have significant scratches in the fields from trying to remove a harder die clash. Nice clash on this coin though!
I see now the "I" took a hit to make it look wider at the top. Lol! Circulated coins are tough to decipher, but at least the clash doesn't lie!
